Clara | Banjo #238
Clara is a 12″ banjo made of Moabi Blanc and Wenge with a touch of White Ash and Padouk. The “engine” of this banjo is the Moabi. We found this wood in West Africa while doing humanitarian work. It is the one most favored by the locals—they use it for furniture, drums, etc. We use it for banjos…it is delightful!
Clara…her woods were from about 40 miles above the border of the Congo. Moabi, a rich golden brown, Padouk…” reds”, and dark black Wenge. The Moabi, in particular, just gets richer with time. A five string with a compound radiused neck, scalloped frets and a nicely dyed “thin” skinhead. Notice the custom dyed bone nut which looks like “marble”, an experiment we will do again! This is an outstanding instrument, good looking and has an amazing tone!
